Ben Ross

Deacon Ben Ross

It wasn't too long ago, January 2004. that one of the troop's scouts received his Eagle award. Like many Eagles he planned on continuing his education beyond high school. Ben Ross heard a different calling, one that directed him to the priesthood. He is in the final days of his studies in preparation for ordination as a Roman Catholic priest.  On June 23rd Ben will become Father Ben Ross. As luck will have it his first assignment will be at St Thomas More.

Calumet Council Jamboree – Results

Scouts and Scouters,

A good turnout of scouts and scouters enjoyed the myriad of activities and displays. Mother nature blessed us with excellent dry weather. The entertainment on Saturday night was enjoyed not only by the campers but many family members. Food, fellowship, camp fires, jamboree stations, fire trucks, emergency management teams, FBI demonstration, Police department display, US Congress man, National Guard rope climbing, junk food vendors (yuck), scout shop, Indy car and on and on. Friday featured an Order of the Arrow call out ceremony. Saturday evening we enjoyed Circus Boy, sound effect comedian and the Fire Dance group.

With all this going on it sure feels good to get back to work on Monday to get some rest.

Photos have been posted.

Blackwell Forest Preserve Campout – Results

Wilderness survival skills, fire building using magnesium block, Totin Chip, Fireman Chit, cooking, Emergency shelter construction, fishing, hiking, capture the flag, late night cobblers and thorns and roses, these are some of the things that you missed if you were not able to attend the campout this weekend. Mother nature tested the mettle of our campers by delivering an early morning thunderstorm. Yes, all this in just two days.

Check out the photos on the troop photo site.

Court of Honor – Results

Scouts and Scouters,

We had a very successful COH with an abundance of awards and rank advancements. Well done all!

Many thanks to all the folks who contributed a dish to share. I saw a lot of happy scouts.

A gentle reminder to our parents concerning the Friends of Scouting campaign. Pledge cards were distributed to all that we had on record. Please do what you can to support scouting in our community. Your tax deductible donation to the Boy Scouts can be dropped in the mail or hand carried directly to the scout office. Thanks in advance.

Remember Saturday at 7:00 AM to meet at Elliott School for the Potawatomi Trail Hike. Also, next week the school is closed for Spring break so NO TROOP MEETING.

Lastly, you can find the latest COH photos posted to the troop’s photo site. The link is on the right hand column of the troop website.

Father and Son Campout – Results

I’ve post some more photos to share. Check out the antics of our scouts and scouters.

Anyone else who took photos are encouraged to share. Don’t know how to do that? Just ask me at the next troop meeting.

LIONS Pancake Breakfast – Results

The troop stepped up to the plate and delivered. The setup and ongoing cleanup went smooth. The heavy duty kitchen cleanup crew did a great job. All should be very satisfied with the efforts expended this Sunday. Now that’s how we say thanks to the MUNSTER LIONS for all their support and how we show that scouts are HELPFUL.

I really didn’t take too many pictures. I guess the social turnout distracted me. It was good to see so many troop alumni scouts and scouters. You can view the ones that I took at the troop photos site.  See the link on the troop website, right hand side, under Scout Links. That will take you to all the troop’s photos.

Summer Camp – 2012

Scouts and Scouters,

The coming year looks to be one that is action packed for Troop 533. Besides the High Adventure trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness the troop committee has chosen one of the three scout camp locations offered up by the scout leadership team. The scouts really did their homework in their selection process. Based upon weighing many criteria the location of summer camp is Camp Drake.

To find out more about this camp just point your browser to:

http://www.campdrake.com/

Summer Camp is July 8 through July 14.

Happy New Year

Adult Registration – Youth Protection Training

All Troop Registerd adults:

Please be advised it will be necessary for you to take the online Youth Protection Training, as administered on the Calumet web site, before registering with the troop in the coming year.

It will not be possible for the troop to provide “courtesy” registration as we have in the past, without training.
